What we do and Who we AReWe are education innovators with a combined total of 30 plus years of academic and higher education administration experience at the high school and college level. We have stood on the horizon of the next generation of careers and we have come back from the future armed with plans to prepare your child for high skills, high wage careers. Together let’s major in the things that will move your child forward exponentially.
Does your child thrive in a small classroom setting?
Are they quiet, shy or afraid to ask questions in large groups? FMI STEM Academy cultivates the development of academic persistence needed for both college-bound and technical career-bound high school students pursuing careers or degrees in science, technology, engineering and math. This persistence is validated by attaining both college credit and in-demand industry certifications. In addition, we believe strongly that each students needs to interact with business leaders to determine ‘the good, the bad, the ugly, and the beautiful’ of their intended careers.
Finally, we offer a challenging yet personalized curriculum in classes that are intentionally small so individualized attention can be provided. Why is STEM education important? Science Technology Engineering Math STEM job creation over the next 10 years will outpace non-STEM jobs significantly with an expected growth of 17%. Jobs in computer systems design and related services - a field dependent on high-level math and problem-solving skills - are projected to grow by 45% from now until 2018. |
The Sensei Learning SystemThe Sensei Learning System (SLS) was created by Justus (Sensei) Frazier while instructing as a tenured professor of mathematics over the course of 15 years. As with all math instructors Sensei struggled with student’s lack established basic skills, academic discipline for studying, and ability to prepare for testing.
The traditional methods of addressing each of these issues of math instruction range from slowing the lesson down to address the lack of basic skills, to assigning lots of homework to address the lack of academic discipline, to preparing practice tests to address the lack of preparation for testing. The problems associated with each method is that only one can be addressed effectively given the limited time and resources. As a result, the other two issues are left wanting in the balance thus leaving students to struggle with the balance of the issues. The SLS addresses the issues by treating math as an art rather than a science where basics are established instead of relying on the verification of hypothesis by experimentation. Such verification disciplines are investigation originated whereas arts are based on establishing the basic into fluid application. It is the difference between learning to play the piano and learning to establish the alkalinity of fluids. Sensei Frazier has spent over decade refining this method with impressive results and looks to share these methods with all who struggle with math as a barrier to their academic progress and success. |
